BACKGROUND

PERSONALITY:
What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature?

Xayah can be a very abrasive person. Though her behavior and mannerisms all depend on who she's interacting with. Humans, especially, are things she has a deep seated distaste towards considering what their kind have done to her people. She's quick to argue, quick to judge, and almost always bristling for a fight if it's strategically viable.

That said, she has a tendency to be abrasive with her own kind as well, but mostly because she's so focused on fighting and what needs to be done that things like kindness and diplomacy tend to fall by the wayside. It's not that she doesn't care, because she cares. She cares deeply, she's just not really the sort to show it.

Human, Vastaya, or otherwise - ultimately, she appreciates people who respect nature, who take care of magic, and those who protect the people they car about. But that doesn't mean she won't attack them if she thinks it'll further her cause. The future of the Vastayan race as a whole is her #1 priority... well, that and Rakan.

Of course, all of this changes if she's with people she actually cares about/likes. Xayah with Rakan is a very different person. He's everything to her and she's surprisingly patient and even borderline gentle with him. Always understanding when he forgets plans, always there to remind him, and generally being as supportive as possible. But even from him she tries to hide just how deeply she cares about things, often bottling up her sadness for when he's asleep. Needing to be strong and capable for him.

How does your character handle stress? What do they do in an emergency?

As a freedom fighter, stress is just kind of a part of life. It's not something she really worries about too much. Most of her life is spent going from one stressful battle to another. She's pretty used to it at this point and handles it fairly well. She is, after all, the Plans. The one who Always knows what to do. The one who goes in with everything figured out.

When those plans go sideways, and they almost always do, she doesn't mind flying by the seat of her pants. It happens often. It's unavoidable really when you have a partner who never remembers most of the plan to put it into action. It's fine. That just means she needs to be better, fight harder, be more, and make sure that they get through things in one piece. But it should be noted that when shit really hits the fan, she's often the one to accept it. Resigned to whatever fate is going to befall her. It's Rakan who often saves the day when the true emergencies happen.

What are your character’s ambitions/goals? Why are they important to your character?

Xayah's goal, for years now, has been to restore the First Lands that are owed to the Vastaya. To push back the humans who've taken their land and drained them of their magic. Slowly, but surely, it's killing her kind, and Xayah won't, no, can't sit by and let that happen. Not when she has the power and willingness to change that. At first her goal was to take things back no matter what the cost. Uncaring of the human lives that were lost as their magic restraining devices were destroyed. Slowly, but surely Rakan has been changing that. Slowly opening her up to the idea that maybe, just maybe, not all humans are bad. Which she still has a hard time accepting. But these days, she's more amenable to trying to find a balance and restoring things to how they were with those who are willing to work with them not against them.

Honestly, a large part of the change is because Rakan reacts poorly to the death of so called innocent humans just as he doesn't take the death of fellow Vastaya well. She hates when he's upset and so wouldn't actively do anything that would hurt him if she can help it. Even if that means cooperating with humans. Gross.

But she's still mindful of the harms humans have done in the past and what they could be capable of in the past. A friendly greeting with one hand, and a feather dagger waiting in the other. Just in case. Though the friendly greeting has to be earned. She's not going to trust humans easily after everything. She can't. It's a good thing she has Rakan by her side, because he's the one who does the diplomacy and makes those things possible when words fail her.

POWERS

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Magic - Most vastaya need a supply of magic to thrive - they don’t need massive amounts of it and can go extended periods without magic. But not forever.

Appearance shifting - While not as extensive as an Oovi-Kat's ability. Xayah can influence her looks at will. How much and for how long depends on how much magic she has available and how big the change is. Something little like changing her feather colours would take a matter of moments and last for a while. While something bigger like new horns would take a lot more time and magic. Or trying to give herself human feet. Not that she ever would. It's a waste of magic, and it feels disgusting too. No thanks.

Enhanced Physiology - Vastayan physiology is naturally prone to being faster and often stronger than a human. They can further enhance this with magic, making them capable of leaping great heights, hover in the air for short periods, and other feats that wouldn't ordinarily be possible.

Magical Plumage - Xayah's unique ability is the way she can shape her feathers into various weapons. Usually daggers, but she's made falchions from them as well when fighting from a distance is no longer possible. These feathers are sharp enough to pierce through armor and can be called back to her at will once thrown out. She's shown in wild magic using this ability to embed feather daggers in the ceiling of the building only to recall them to destroy the building and everything her feathers passed through on the way back.

Enhanced Senses - Lhotlans have sharper eyes, better tracking ability and just overall better vision than a human. (Though they see equally as well in the dark). Their hearing and sense of smell and are also much stronger overall.

Magical battery - Capable of storing magic in her body to survive long periods with no exposure to magic. Isn't quite as good at it is Rakan is, unfortunately for her, and she's much more likely to get dangerously low. A corruption of this magic or a complete lack of it for too long can kill her.

NERFING:

Physiology - She's not as fast as she would ordinarily be, still fast but only slightly faster than a human. Xayah also can't stay airborn the way she usually would, hovering lost to her until she's unlocked more ability and magic again. Like Rakan, she can't do any real changes to her appearance at this point in time unless something happens via an in game event or a regain of sorts is used for it.

Magic - Have talked with Cirrus (Rakan's mun) and agree with the proposal of "can exhaust magic reserves. Without any geographical means to replenish this reserve, as in canon, will need to rest near mages/magical beings to sap their energy, and so will need permission from characters." Like Rakan, she also can't sense magic easily and "if a character can use magic, she will have to learn to understand the new kinds of magic(read: need mun permission)"

(Basically I'm trying to keep the pair of them on even footing as much as possible so pardon me for citing from Rakan's app)

Magical Plumage - Xayah can still make feather weapons, but it's a quick way to drain her magic. Though they can be absorbed back into her body if formed and then never used. Too often and it'll still slowly deplete her energy. Recalling them will take a serious control on her and the amount of weapons she can create at one time is severely limited compared to her canon counterpart. IE if she could make 100 in canon, she'd be lucky to manage 10-15 now. Especially with how much such a large expenditure will drain her.

~~Poor Rakan, he's canonically prone to topping up her magic when she's low. And so she's going to be one large drain on the poor man.~~
